Festival at Home Decor Ideas: Ribbons
Our festival boxes make it easy to create a stunning festival backdrop, in whatever space you have. You can freestyle your decor or if you’re short of inspiration we will be outlining ideas in the journal. We’ve grouped together some ribbon ideas for the ribbons that are part of the package.
Ring of Ribbons (above)
The ribbons look great tied around in a ring and hung up somewhere like a centrepiece. You can use anything circular with a hollow centre, such as a child’s hula hoop, and attach string to hang it up. If you don’t have one to hand follow our instructions to make an easy one out of a wire coat hanger:
- Using pliers, untwist the wrapped bit of wire from around the neck of the hanger.
- Bend the loose wire into a circle shape, keeping the end with the hook on free to go into the centre.
- Bend the end with the hook straight into the middle, then lift the hook up at 90 degrees.
- Wrap the loose end of the wire to the other side , completing the circle.
- Fold each ribbon in half, and loop that through the circle pulling both ends through the loop. This will leave 2 long trailing tails of one colour.
- Complete all the way around until all pieces are looped, then spread around evenly.
You can choose to keep them long like we did or cut each ribbon in half and repeat the process to make a shorter but fuller display.
The Ribbon Tree (or Bush!)
Another effective way of creating a feature (and one often seen at festivals) is to hang ribbons from tree branches. Cut the ribbons into thirds, fold in half and loop each piece over a branch, pulling both ends through. Repeat at random, hanging all over the tree either layering colours together or letting the colours go wild! Use all the ribbon for the best effect, and you can substitute the tree for a bush if there are small branches.
Hanging Ribbon
Alternatively a super easy and colourful way of using your ribbon is to hang it on a length of string or the ends of your bunting. Cut the ribbon into thirds, fold in half and loop over the string, pulling both ends through the loop. Repeat across the length of the string using all the ribbon. A funky ribbon decor alternative is to cut the ribbon into different lengths so that it hangs randomly!
Honeycomb Ball Tails
You can double up the ribbon with the honeycomb balls to make a lovely photographic feature. Cut one of the ribbons into thirds. Before opening the balls, tape the end of the ribbons to the bottom edge of the cardboard inner, closest to the centre. Complete your ball by pulling it out and sticking together, and you’ll have a nice tail! Use similar palette tones or go completely clashing (our preference!).
