Festival at Home Decor Ideas: DIY VIP Tent

It’s Easy to Create a Stunning DIY VIP Tent

One of the cheapest and easiest ways of creating a relaxing feature at your festival at home is to make a DIY VIP tent. You can buy a ready-made teepee online but they tend to be upwards of £60 and are designed for children. Our version can comfortably seat 2 adults!

All you need is a double bed sheet, thin rope or string, clothes pegs and 4 x 2.4m bamboo canes. The canes can be found at B&Q, other DIY shops, or even online if you need them delivered. Usually they come in bunches of 10, so you could make a couple of tents if you have space! The canes also come in handy to hang bunting off if you don’t have any garden features.

All you need to do is hold the 4 bamboo canes together tightly, and mark out around 30cm from the top. This is where you will tie the rope to create the structure. Use the rope to wind around all of the canes, going in and out of each of the canes- in addition to the whole lot. Make sure they are tied together pretty tightly. If you pull the bottoms out slowly they will form the square base which will stand freely.

Clip the shortest side of the bed sheet on to one of the legs using the pegs. Wrap around the other legs to the opposite side. Peg this side of the sheet to the bamboo to create an opening and complete your structure.

Put a heavy duty rug (jute works well) on the floor as a base and use scatter cushions to sit and relax on. You can use overhanging bamboo on top to anchor your bunting. A small table, candles and fairy lights complete your DIY VIP tent!
